About the Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is considered to be the 5th chakra of the physical body chakras. Located above your heart chakra and below your brow chakra.
It is conventionally associated with your ability to speak; however, and possibly more importantly, it is linked to your ability to hear. Making this chakra, the chakra of external, as well as, internal communication.
On the front of the body, it is located at the base of your neck between the collar bones.
When the front portion of your throat chakra is in balance, you are able to speak your truth with love and compassion.
The back half of this chakra is located at the base of the skull. This portion is often refered to as the mouth of God.
This is where your higher self, your heart based self, receives your own inner guidance, knowledge and wisdom. Not the messages you may receive for others. The messages for your own inner growth and development. Messages which can only be heard when your mind, the ego, is still and quiet.
Getting Ready – Clearing the Mind for Meditation
Before starting any meditation, write down any items you need to complete during the day following the meditation.
The list should be complete, from picking up the kids to buying groceries. Or, any items you need to complete for work.
The fact that you no longer have to put any energy into remembering these specific items, supports the relaxation process.
Once everything you need to complete following the meditation is written down, please begin the foundational breath work and releasing the one last item that is still whirling around in your mind.
Releasing the one last item
Please breath in deeply.
As you breath in follow the breath all the way down to your lower abdomen – below the belly button.
As you breath out through your mouth, imagine you are filling up a ballon with the one last item you wish to release. At the end of the out breath, watch as the balloon floats away.
It’s not gone forever. You can take it back if you wish. Or, you can decide to leave it behind and allow the Universe to take it away.
I usually pretend I am filling up a pink (compassion) balloon with the item. I usually but, not always, leave it for the Universe to dispose of.
The colour of the balloon and what you choose to fill it with is completely up to you. You are a unique being and you need to honour your own uniqueness.
Sometimes you may feel that the item you wish to release is stuck and blowing it away will not do the trick. I call this being corded. When this happens, you can gently but firmly untie the cord in your mind’s eye and visualize the cord releasing into the balloon with ease and grace on your next out breath.
Please do not cut the cord.
When you cut a cord, the end remains and, the cord will grow back.
Each time you meditate the balloon and what you fill it with may appear similar or different. Regardless of how they appear, always know in your heart, the colour of your balloon and whatever you choose to release will be for your highest and greatest good.
Repeat the exercise – 3 times or until you are feeling more relaxed, with no attachments and, you feel you are ready and able to settle in for the meditation.
Throat Chakra Meditation
Close your eyes and visualize yourself sitting crosslegged on a beach facing the ocean.
Imagine the water is clear and blue. Or, for those who prefer, the colour may be a wondrous turquoise blue.
The day is bright and cheerful.
You look up towards the sky. There are no clouds and, the colour of the sky is a soft, pale blue.
The sun appears high overhead.
You can feel a gentle breeze on your skin and the warmth of the sun on your face.
You are at peace.
As you breath in, blue (or turquoise) rays of light emanating from the water enter your nose, brow, palms of your hands, soles of your feet. It is as though you were breathing in all the life giving energy the water has to offer.
As you breath out, the blue (or turquoise) rays circulate through the body, cleansing, balancing, healing and are exhaled.
Repeat the exercise 6 to 8 times. Or, as many times as you feel is the correct number of times for you. Each meditation will be a unique experience.
Closing the Meditation
Closing a meditation is as important as being a meditation in the correct frame of mind.
You have just released and now it is time to fill up before continuing your day.
As you breath in, silently say love and as you breath out, silently say light.
Breathing in love, breathing out light.
Repeat 6 to 8 times. Or, as many times as you feel is the correct number of times fo you. As always, each meditation will be a unique experience.
